Today marked the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg in the U.S. Civil War. A public commemoration of the battle was organized by the Hawaii Civil War Roundtable in Oahu Cemetery near downtown Honolulu.
One of the features of today's commemoration were presentation on the involvement of Native Hawaiians in the Civil War. We are especially indebted to Dr. Justin Vance of Hawaii Pacific University -who heads the Roundtable- and Nanette Napoleon, historian and researcher.
