Memorial Day 2011

As we approach Memorial Day History Education Hawaii invites all to pause, reflect and remember those who paid the ultimate price for America's freedoms. Each year the grave sites of those who perished in battle are decorated such as seen in the picture above at the National Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl Cemetery) in Hawaii. Each stone represents a personal history worthy of remembrance by present and future generations all over the world.

Last year we posted a link to a page furnished by the Department of Veterans Affairs, focusing on the history of this federal holiday. Click here to view it.

History Education Hawaii's office will be closed until Tuesday morning, May 31. We wish all a safe, restful and reflective commemoration.
