Please Support the HEH Fund for Historical Literacy

Dear Friends of History Education Hawaii:

On a Saturday morning in December 2011, Iolani School was buzzing with activity. History was being made. For the first time ever, the National History Bee and Bowl was held in Hawaii. What an exciting time it was!

Individual and team competitors enthusiastically filled the air as their historical literacy was put to the test. Old friends connected, new friends were made –and the thrill of victory brought smiles to Hawaii’s brightest young historians, their teachers and parents.

Why do you have a love of history? There are many things that led me to a career as a history educator and historian. As I am sitting here reflecting on my path, I wonder if your attraction to history education mirrored my own?

I’ve had the privilege of meeting many of Hawaii’s history educators, historians, students and history buffs. Much to my delight, what I’ve witnessed is a learning community that is energized. I met passionate teachers and students who work tirelessly to support, innovate and with a drive to achieve academic excellence.

This year History Education Hawaii, an allied organization with the National Council for History Education, has launched the Fund for Historical Literacy. We appreciate all gifts made at every level. My hope is that you will commit yourself to history education and historical literacy by making a gift today.

This is unquestionably a tough time for nonprofits. Remember that every gift –no matter the size- will help set a solid foundation for historical literacy in Hawaii.

Please write your check and send it today to History Education Hawaii, P.O. Box 183, Honolulu HI 96810-0183.

Thank you for your consideration! Cheers and aloha!
